Do you own an online business and you want to promote your site and your products for free? Press release writing could be one of your methods to advertise online. Press releases are technically news items but you can make them serve your marketing purposes by writing ads that have elements of straight news. This could be very effective in your information campaign because some people are tired of reading self-serving ads copy and prefer to read news which have hard facts and solid information. Here are 3 tips to effective press release writing that can serve your advertising and marketing campaign strategies:
1. To create objective sounding press releases, write in the third person. Avoid using personalized words and phrases. As much as possible just make a plain and straightforward description of what you’re writing about. This is the key here, just describe your topic using the 4 Ws and 1 H of news writing – who, what, when, where, and how.
2. Avoid using hype words. This is a definite no-go in press release writing. Editors will throw out your news items if you submit your press release to them. Readers on the other hand will be wary of your article so its effectiveness might decrease. Just use neutral words and objective descriptions.
3. There’s a way to insert hype in press releases. Use direct quotes from people who endorse your site or products. Interview your CEO or the marketing officer and make a direct quote from what they said. Insert this in your press release to add spice to your article. Just remember not to overdo this because your press release will not be objective anymore if you fill it with many direct quotations.
Press release writing is a good way to promote your products or services. Just remember the rules of news writing in order for it to be effective.
