There are definitely many questions from a variety of businesses whether social media should play a big role in a search engine optimization strategy. Social media has really come through like a giant wave engulfing the business community and many are still not sure what to do with it. It is like being part of one giant party and if you don’t at least show up you could potentially be missing out on a great deal of potential conversations. It is important for every business to realize that the search engines are changing and evolving into something much different than they were 5 years ago or even two years ago sparking many marketing changes for many different websites.

Social media made is a large piece of the puzzle now and it is important to include all aspects into an search engine optimziation strategy. Social media helps boost search engine optimization efforts in a great way. If you approach the strategy from a quality aspect it looks like a much better approach when you have a variety of social media conversation starting aspects rather than SEO loop holes that might generate decent rankings. Most social media profiles allow for one link to your website. That one link lets the search engines know that you are serious about building your brand online. Search engines have been changing for some time now shifting towards rewarding websites that really utilize all tools that might be available at their disposal. As the power of social media only grows larger and larger the importance of including this effort into any online marketing campaign will become even greater to the success of a website.

SEO has changed many times over the years mostly because the search engines have changed over the years. They will most likely change even more as time goes on. Search engines want to see businesses that are starting to take more of a quality approach rather than a quantity approach to their SEO efforts. This is not the only reason to want to include social media in your strategy. Search engine marketing is all about creating visibility and attracting new potential clients and customers to your business. Social media allows you to communicate directly with your potential clients and customers. Nowhere else will you be able to position yourself that closely to your audience without moving right into their living room. When you are ready to finally pull the trigger on SEO you will quickly see there is a tremendous amount of information out there floating around which can make things get very overwhelming really quickly. As a business owner that might not understand this concept it is important to not get frustrated with the fluctuation in pricing and approaches you might encounter. You have to realize that there are many different approaches to get from point A to point B when it comes to search engine optimization and you will most likely hear them all. SEO is not all technical. Actually most of the approach is non technical and much more on the marketing side of things. When a search engine marketing campaign talks to you about their approach and it sounds like a nuclear equation than chances are you should move on and find another firm. Search engine marketing is just that, marketing so there should be a heavy emphasis on actually building a business online through a variety of media outlets rather than locating loopholes to boost rankings.

Search engines are quickly figuring out how to remove the SEO people that expose loopholes to manipulate search results. Since it is still a very young industry it is growing, changing and evolving all the time. Often time’s industry people try different things that all end up working with great SEO benefits. This is why there are so many different definitions and approaches when a person goes shopping to buy this service for their own company. Benchmarks and industry standards have not yet been set so pricing is all over the board. The process of shopping around for the right vendor is not easy. Since search engine optimization is such a long term goal and effort you want to find a vendor that you feel comfortable and mesh well with so that you don’t find yourself needing to switch to another partner six months down the road. SEO can be a very challenging process if you chose the wrong vendor so make search you do your research. Call current or past clients and search the firm or experts name to see what comes up in the search results before making a decision. New webmasters get caught up sometimes in the different methods of link building and lose site of the big picture. Perhaps the most common form of link building is directory submissions. Talk to anyone who has done a fair amount of link building and they will almost always recommend link building through directory submissions (really good quality ones, such as Yahoo! Directory, DMOZ or Business.com). However, directory submissions is one only method of link building. In order to build a more diverse portfolio of links you need to branch out from there.

The most important thing to remember about link building is diversity. It isn’t enough to have high quality links. It isn’t enough to have a high quantity of links. You need to build a good number of high quality links from a variety of sources. It’s called link diversity.

Link diversity is simply the idea that you don’t focus on one particular type of website for your links. For instance, directory submissions. You really need to build links in other ways – in addition to directory submissions. The following list is meant to give you an idea of how you can approach link diversity. It’s not exhaustive.
