Google Launches Social Search

Google has launched the very neat social search feature yesterday. I am honestly surprised there is not more discussion around it in the forums. We covered it three times, first for the demo, then when it went experimental and then with some technical issues.

Well, it is now live. On by default. Honestly, I don’t believe it impacts normal searches unless you specific choose, “show options” and click on the social feature.

But when you do, it opens up a world of new searches based on your online social profile (which you may or may not have).

Google Toolbar PageRank Update (New Years 2010)

Almost exactly like last year, Google is pushing out a New Years PageRank Update now. Mid-December we reported PageRank shifts or penalties and today, there are wide spread reports of a PageRank update in the Google Toolbar.

It is a bit funny, because last New Years, we reported in mid-December a PR shuffle and then on December 31, 2008 we reported an official PageRank update in the toolbar. It is almost exactly the same way this year. Today, December 31, 2009, we are reporting the 2010 New Years PageRank update.

The last toolbar PageRank update before today was in October. Like I always say, Toolbar PageRank is not of great use to SEOs. It is often months out of date and does not determine a rank of a web page. So please do not obsess over Toolbar PageRank.

For those who saw their toolbar PageRank go up, congrats on the ‘badge’ and here is to an even higher PR in 2010!

Poll: Where Do SEOs Cash In Best?

A Search Engine Watch Forums thread has a post asking where do SEOs make the most amount of money? Is it by offering SEO consulting services? Is it by building web sites with affiliate models? Is it by offering SEO education? Is it by selling successful web sites? Or is it something else?

I assume the answer depends on how good the person is at the particular service. If someone is great at dealing with clients, then consulting might be the way to go. If someone is excellent at educating people, then go that way. If some one can anticipate trends and is able to sell a site for big money, then that is the way to go.

But if you had to pick one, which would it be? Take our anonymous poll:
